The West Texas Mile is a standing-start, one mile land-speed event where cars, motorcycles, and specialty vehicles chase their top speed on a full mile of fresh Texas runway. This is not drag racing. There are no side-by-side eliminations.
Instead, drivers race against the clock-and the record books. Every run is professionally timed and sanctioned by the East Coast Timing Association (ECTA), a world leader in land speed competition.

This October, the Colorado City Airport transforms into the ultimate motorsports and festival destination. The West Texas Mile isn’t just about blistering speed on the runway-though you’ll see plenty of that with ECTA-sanctioned land speed racing. Drivers from across the country will push the limits of cars, trucks, and motorcycles in a one mile competition, with 8,909 ft translating into 1.69 miles of runway.

ECTA sanctioned drivers can register for official timed runs and world record attempts on our one-mile Colorado City Airport runway. Complete support services include race fuel available for pre-order, plus equipment rentals from trusted local partners. Tech inspection and registration ensure every competitor meets safety standards while pursuing personal bests and championship times. Friday evening features special "hometown runs" where local drivers can experience the thrill of straight-line racing following ECTA regulations. Professional crews and safety personnel provide comprehensive support throughout the entire competition weekend.
