We’re thrilled to host you for the West Texas Mile at the Colorado City Airport!

Throughout the weekend you’ll find food trucks, live music, and family-friendly entertainment right at the airfield.

If you’d like to venture beyond the airport and see what Colorado City has to offer, here are some great local spots to eat, shop, and explore.

Things to Do in Colorado City

Lake Colorado City State Park — Fishing, paddling, swimming, hiking, camping, wildlife watching (geocaches, too). Day-use and campsites available.

Champion Creek Reservoir (“Lake Champion”) — 1,500+ acre lake ~7 miles south of town; public boat ramp on the SW shore. One of the greatest fishing lakes in the state.

Ruddick Park — Big shady city park with creek, ducks, picnic tables, and playground; nice for a stroll with coffee.

Fisher Park (Lake Champion area) — Day-use lakefront with sandy beach vibes; check access/availability.

Heart of West Texas Museum — Local history (mammoth fossils, cowboy & WWII exhibits). Typical hours Tue–Fri 12–5; call ahead.

Golf (with food & drinks)

Centennial / Wolf Creek Golf Course (9-hole) — 1417 Co Rd 137. Play a round and drop by the Wild Horse Bar & Grill at the clubhouse for lunch or an evening bite.

Small-Town Fun (simple, creative ideas)

Sunrise coffee walk at Ruddick Park → brunch at Mary’s → afternoon lake time (Lake Colorado City or Lake Champion) → evening burgers & live music at Wild Horse.

Kids’ scavenger hunt: spot 5 ranch brands at the Branding Wall, 3 kinds of birds at the park, and 1 classic car at the airport.

Stargazing: West Texas skies shine—bring camp chairs to the state park or a dark pull-off by Lake Champion (mind gates & private roads).
